Basketball Recap: Churchill County Extends Winning Streak to Seven

Churchill County had won six straight games and Raegan Johnson did her part to make it seven on Friday. The Churchill County Greenwave walked away with a 47-36 win over the Lowry Buckaroos thanks in part to Johnson, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 18 boards. Churchill County is 15-2 when Johnson posts eight or more rebounds, but 3-4 otherwise.

Another player making a difference was Karlie J. Simper, who posted eight points and three steals. She has been hot for a while, having posted two or more steals the last 16 times she's played.

Lowry lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Britain Backus, who earned 16 points in addition to five boards and five steals. That was a full 44.4% of Lowry's points, marking the 17th time in a row she's put up more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Matti Delong, who had seven points and eight rebounds.

Churchill County's victory was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 18-6. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 28.8 points per game. As for Lowry, with the defeat, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 13-6.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Churchill County will venture away from home to take on Dayton at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Lowry, they will head out on the road to challenge Fernley at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Lowry is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 51.9 points per game this season.
