Softball Recap: Warrensburg-Latham Snaps Five-Game Streak of Wins on the Road

Warrensburg-Latham dropped their record down to 11-9 on Wednesday, which also ended the team's five-game streak of wins on the road. They came up short against the Meridian Hawks, falling 11-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Cardinals have suffered since March 31st.

As for Meridian, they pushed their record up to 17-3 with the win, which was their tenth straight at home. The victory continues a trend for them in their matchups with Warrensburg-Latham: they've now won nine in a row.

For Meridian's part, Ashley Schelling spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on four hits. Schelling has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Emma Childers and Julia Meisenhelter did most of the damage at the plate: Childers went 2-for-3 with four RBI, one triple, and one run, while Meisenhelter went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. Those four RBI gave Childers a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Katelyn Clapp, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI and one run.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Warrensburg-Latham will head out to square off against Springfield at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Cardinals' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Senators have averaged an impressive 6.1 runs per game this season. As for Meridian, they are taking a road trip to challenge Tuscola at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Warriors will roll in looking for their eighth straight win, something the Hawks surely won't give up without a fight.
