Football Recap: Floyd Central Skates Past Columbus East with Ease

Floyd Central hadn't done well against Columbus East recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Highlanders blew past the Olympians 56-28. Considering the Highlanders have won five contests by more than 21 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

When it comes to explaining why Columbus East lost, don't look at Kyson Villarreal. Despite the final result, he threw for 204 yards and three touchdowns, and also rushed for 51 yards and one TD. Villarreal is becoming a predictor of the Olympians' success: when he posts at least three passing touchdowns the team is 2-1 (and 1-2 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Dallas Dykstra, who picked up 95 receiving yards and a pair of scores.

The win (which was Floyd Central's fourth in a row) raised their record to 5-1. The victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 47.5 points over those games. As for Columbus East, with the loss, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 3-3.

Looking ahead, Floyd Central will square off against Bedford North Lawrence at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Stars' defense has only allowed 14.5 points per game this season, so the Highlanders' offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Columbus East, they will take on Bloomington North at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
