Softball Game Preview: Commerce Tigers vs. Chisum Mustangs

The Commerce Tigers will head out on the road to challenge the Chisum Mustangs at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Chisum took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Commerce, who comes in off a win.

Commerce will roll into the contest after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up one run on Tuesday, then bounced right back against Pottsboro on Friday. The Tigers blew past the Cardinals 12-2. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Tigers' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.

Charley Lytle made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off one hit (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one home run and five RBI. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high.

Lytle wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Kaleigh Robrecht, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one run and one RBI. Emma Gossett was another, getting on base in two of her four plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base.

Meanwhile, Chisum was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They lost 13-1 to Rains.

Commerce's victory ended a five-game drought at home and bumped them up to 8-15-1. As for Chisum, their defeat dropped their record down to 13-13.

Commerce came up short against Chisum in their previous meeting back in March, falling 11-6. Can the Tigers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
