Basketball Game Preview: Piedra Vista Panthers vs. Hobbs Eagles

The Piedra Vista Panthers will face off against the Hobbs Eagles at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Piedra Vista has given up an average of 53.4 points per game this season, so hopefully the team got some defensive drills in this week.

Piedra Vista came up short against Rio Rancho last Tuesday, falling 62-38. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Panthers have suffered against the Rams since February 23, 2018.

Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Tyra Holyan, who posted 13 points and seven rebounds. Jaime Pierce was another key player, putting up 13 points.

Meanwhile, Hobbs waltzed into their match on Saturday with 25 straight wins... but they left with 26. They blew past the Wildcats 69-27. The score at the end of the third wound up being the final score as the Eagles just coasted through the last quarter.

Hobbs pushed their record up to 26-1 with the win, which was their 17th straight at home. Those victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 28.6 points on average over those games. As for Piedra Vista, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 12-16.

Piedra Vista took a serious blow against Hobbs in their previous matchup back in December of 2024, falling 91-34. That contest was all but decided by halftime, at which point Piedra Vista was down 52-19.
