Basketball Recap: Del Valle Takes a Loss

Del Valle lost against El Dorado back in December of 2023 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Del Valle Conquistadores took a 50-46 hit to the loss column at the hands of the El Dorado Aztecs. The Conquistadores have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Despite the loss, Del Valle still got an impressive performance from Izabel Velazquez, who went 9 of 16 on her way to 21 points and three steals. Those 21 points gave Velazquez a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Pearl Ruiz, who posted 11 points and four steals.

Hannah Hicks went supernova for El Dorado, dropping a double-double on 16 points and 17 boards. Hicks has been hot recently, having posted 13 or more rebounds the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Leemae Maldonado, who put up seven points.

Del Valle's defeat dropped their record down to 8-17. As for El Dorado, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 11-12 record this season.

Coincidentally, both will both be playing Americas the next time they take the court. Del Valle will host Americas at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, while El Dorado will head out to face them at 7:30 p.m. on January 17th.
