Basketball Recap: Mineral Ridge Piles Up the Points Against Mcdonald

Mineral Ridge had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 30 points) and they went ahead and made it six on Thursday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the McDonald Blue Devils 63-31. The Rams have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five contests by 32 points or more this season.

Leading Mineral Ridge to victory were Sullivan Sandy and Ava Hulett. Sandy went 9 for 18 en route to 23 points, while Hulett went 8 of 20 on her way to 18 points in addition to seven boards and five steals. Hulett is on a roll when it comes to points, as she's now scored 16 or more in the last three games she's played. Lydia Cottrill also deserves some recognition as she scored her first points of the season.

Mineral Ridge was working as a unit and finished the game with 21 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in January of 2024.

McDonald's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Cierra Shiley, who went 5 for 9 on her way to 10 points and six rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Juliana Krumpak, who posted seven points and six assists.

Mineral Ridge's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-3. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 29.5 points per game. As for McDonald, they moved to 9-6 with that loss, which also ended their four-game winning streak.

Mineral Ridge will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Ursuline at 7:00 p.m. on January 27th. McDonald has already played their next matchup, a 50-13 victory against Memorial on the 18th.
