Basketball Recap: South Johnston Takes a Loss

South Johnston was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They were outmatched by the C.B. Aycock Golden Falcons and fell 54-24. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Trojans this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 53-36 back in January.

C.B. Aycock's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Madison Smith, who went 7 for 11 on her way to 16 points in addition to eight boards and three blocks. Those 16 points gave Smith a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Alonna Frederick, who went 5 of 8 en route to 14 points and seven rebounds.

South Johnston's loss dropped their record down to 3-14. As for C.B. Aycock, they pushed their record up to 13-4 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. South Johnston will square off against Southern Wayne at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday. As for C.B. Aycock, they will challenge Fike at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Fike knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past five matches -- so hopefully C.B. Aycock likes a good challenge.
