Football Game Preview: Woonsocket Villa Novans vs. Moses Brown Quakers

The Woonsocket Villa Novans will face off against the Moses Brown Quakers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Moses Brown took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Woonsocket, who comes in off a win.

Woonsocket is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Rhode Island's top teams: Coventry, who was ranked 24th at the time (Woonsocket was ranked 17th). The Villa Novans walked away with a 36-28 win over the Oakers on Friday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Villa Novans.

Braylon Guilbeault had an outrageously good game as he threw for 124 yards and three touchdowns while completing 87.5% of his passes, and also rushed for 60 yards. He didn't just play on offense: he also forced one fumble and made six total tackles. Woonsocket's leading receiver Jalil Quinones Diaz was Guilbeault's top target yet again, picking up 82 receiving yards and a pair of TDs.

Another reason for the win was Woonsocket's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for four sacks. In that department, Dan Cote Jr was the leader with two. He is becoming a predictor of Woonsocket's success: when he posts at least one sack the team is undefeated (and 1-4 when he doesn't).

Meanwhile, Friday just wasn't the day for Moses Brown's offense. They had to suffer through a 32-0 loss at the hands of East Providence. The game marked the first time this season in which the Quakers were not able to get on the board.

The victory got Woonsocket back to even at 4-4. As for Moses Brown, their loss ended a four-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 3-4.
