Preview: Gunter Tigers vs. Canadian Wildcats

Gunter is on a 16-game streak of home wins (dating back to last season), while Canadian is on a ten-game streak of away wins (dating back to last season): one of those streaks is about to end. The Gunter Tigers will take on the Canadian Wildcats at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Gunter's favor is that they have posted big point totals every time they've taken the field this season.

With a playoff game on the line, Gunter rose to the challenge on Friday. They blew past the Tigers 55-33. Fans of Gunter have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season ended as a blowout.

It was another big night for Walker Overman, who rushed for 216 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 12.0 yards per carry, and also threw for 123 yards and three touchdowns on only ten passes.

Meanwhile, Canadian's offense rose to the challenge against a Hawks defense that boasted an average of only nine points allowed. Canadian enjoyed a cozy 31-12 victory over Wall on Friday. Given Canadian's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 107th, while Wall is ranked 316th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Camren Cavalier continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 115 yards and two touchdowns on only 15 carries, while also throwing for 237 yards and a touchdown while completing 86.7% of his passes. Cavalier has been hot recently, having posted two or more rushing touchdowns the last four times he's played.

The team's defense also helped out by holding Wall to a paltry 249 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Canadian's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid the passer out eight times before it was all said and done. It was a group effort, with three guys contributing.

The wins kept both teams' perfect 14-0 season records intact.

Gunter won a contest that couldn't have been any closer in their previous matchup back in December of 2022, slipping by Canadian 21-20. Will Gunter repeat their success, or does Canadian have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
