Softball Recap: Umatilla Sets Scoring Season-High Against Crescent City

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Umatilla). Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Crescent City Raiders a 21-0 shutout on Thursday. The Bulldogs haven't had any issues with the Raiders recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive victory against them.

Mittie O'Brien made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. O'Brien was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs and one RBI.

In other batting news, Brook Thomas and Aliyah Duncan did most of the damage at the plate: Thomas went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI, while Duncan went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs and one RBI. Those three runs gave Thomas a new career-high. Hannah Sayre was another key player, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.

Umatilla always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .821. They are 3-1 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Umatilla's win bumped their record up to 8-14. As for Crescent City, their loss was their eighth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 8-13.

Umatilla does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Crescent City, they will challenge First Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The Raiders' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Eagles have averaged an impressive 10.9 runs per game this season.
