Softball Recap: Luther Comes Up Short

Luther extended their losing streak to five on Thursday, dropping them down to 1-7. They came up short against the Westby Norse, falling 15-6. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Knights of the 15-12 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2025.

As for Westby, they moved to 2-7 with that victory, which also ended their three-game losing streak. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

For Westby's part, Ava Berg was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up four earned (and two unearned) runs off nine hits. Those 11 strikeouts gave Berg a new career-high. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three RBI and one double.

In other batting news, Rachel Frydenlund was a standout: she got on base in all five of her plate appearances with four runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Those four runs gave her a new career-high. Aspyn Fleming was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Westby beat Luther by a score of 8-4 later that day.
