Baseball Recap: Excelsior Charter Takes a Loss

Excelsior Charter extended their losing streak to seven on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 2-15 in the process. They lost 21-2 to the Hesperia Christian Patriots. The Eagles were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Patriots apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.

As for Hesperia Christian, their victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 10-10. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

For Hesperia Christian's part, Nathaniel Renner was a major factor no matter where he played. He struck out seven batters over 5.2 innings while giving up just two earned runs off seven hits. Those seven strikeouts gave Renner a new career-high. He was even better at the plate, getting on base in four of his six plate appearances with one home run, four stolen bases, and four runs. He has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last six times he's played.

In other batting news, Gabe Sanchez was a standout: he went 4-for-5 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Ezra Hawthorne was another key player, going 3-for-4 with five RBI, one run, and one double.

While Excelsior Charter had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 3:15 p.m. on Thursday.
