League recap: Liberty tops Sierra to extend winning streak

Liberty extended the longest winning streak in North Sequoia this week by beating Sierra, 21-0. The victory was the seventh in a row for the Hawks.

Chowchilla moved up to 446 from 541 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Redskins climbed the ranks as a result of besting Washington Union 47-44.

Liberty's dynamic duo of Zach Richey and J.J. Santa Cruz proved tough for the Chieftains to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Richey threw for 81 yards and Santa Cruz had 58 yards receiving. Braden Cardoza helped Liberty's passing attack out by catching three balls for 17 yards.

Devaughn Gaines provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Chowchilla defeated the Panthers. He completed two passes for 26 yards and also ran for 294 yards. Gaines' favorite target this week was Dustin Gaither, who caught one pass for 22 yards.

Yosemite's Joey Woolsey and Dillon Moran have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Woolsey has thrown for 1016 yards this season, while Moran has 19 catches for 320 yards. Sierra's Gage McAdams leads the league in rushing yards with 674.

A big matchup in North Sequoia this week will be when Kerman takes on Rob Hastie's team. The Lions are in fourth place, while the Chieftains are in second place.

Alex Pittz's team and Washington Union played the most hotly contested game in the league this week, with Alex Pittz's team eventually emerging with a 47-44 victory. Gaines in the win.
