Softball Recap: Ursuline Academy Triumphs

Ursuline Academy won the last time they faced Bellingham and things went their way on Friday too. The Bears skirted past the Blackhawks 2-1. That's two games straight that the Bears have won by just one run.

Emersyn Smart was a major factor no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one triple. That triple was her first of the season.

Smart wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Ella Cusson, who went 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI. Elena Bustamonte also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Ursuline Academy pushed their record up to 3-2 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Bellingham, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-4.

Coming up, Ursuline Academy will look to defend their home field on Monday against Norfolk County Agricultural at 3:30 p.m. As for Bellingham, they are taking a road trip to challenge Medfield at 3:45 p.m. on Monday. The Warriors have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 12.17 runs per game on average), something the Blackhawks will no doubt try to take advantage of.
