Baseball Game Preview: Mifflinburg Wildcats vs. Hughesville Spartans

The Mifflinburg Wildcats will venture away from home to square off against the Hughesville Spartans at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Mifflinburg took a eight-run defeat the last time they faced off against Selinsgrove, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. Mifflinburg had just enough and edged out Selinsgrove 3-2 on Monday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Wildcats have posted against the Seals since May 4, 2018.

Mifflinburg saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Mason Schneck, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI.

Meanwhile, Hughesville put another one in the bag on Thursday to keep their perfect season alive. They were the clear victors by a 10-1 margin over South Williamsport. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Spartans considering their two-run performance the match before.

Blake Babb looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off four hits.

At the plate, Connor Anstadt was incredible, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Brenden Fisher, who scored two runs while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.

Hughesville always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .528. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as South Williamsport only posted an OBP of .344.

Hughesville's record now sits at 3-0. As for Mifflinburg, the win got them back to even at 2-2.
