The Rocky Grove Orioles will venture away from home to challenge the Lakeview Sailors at 4:15 p.m. on Monday. Rocky Grove is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10 runs per game this season.
Last Wednesday, Rocky Grove earned a 10-7 win over Franklin.
Isaac Grigsby was excellent, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4. Liam Grigsby also deserves some recognition as he got his first hits of the season.
Isaac wasn't the only one making solid contact: Rocky Grove kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in five consecutive matchups dating back to last season.
Meanwhile, Lakeview never let their opponents score on Wednesday. They put the hurt on Maplewood with a sharp 10-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Sailors, who have now won five contests by ten runs or more so far this season.
Maddox Bell was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. Those 11 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Cody Fagley, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most hits he has posted since back in May of 2024. Jonny Husband was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing four bases while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.
The win made it two in a row for Lakeview and bumps their season record up to 6-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.5 runs over those games. As for Rocky Grove, their record is now 3-1.
Monday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Rocky Grove hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .359. However, it's not like Lakeview struggles in that department as they've averaged .368. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Rocky Grove might still be hurting after the 10-0 loss they got from Lakeview in their previous matchup back in May of 2023. Can the Orioles avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
