Baseball Recap: Jefferson Mustangs vs. Seguin Matadors
Jefferson extended their losing streak to four on Friday, dropping their season record down to 12-15 in the process. They came up short against the Seguin Matadors, falling 6-0. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Matadors this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 10-0 on April 1st.
As for Seguin, they have been performing well recently as they've won 15 of their last 18 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-8-1 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.1 runs on average over those games.
For Seguin's part, Corey Dailey was a major factor no matter where he played. He kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 11 over seven innings pitched. Dailey has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one hit in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, Will Gray Mahaffey was a standout: he went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Ocean Moreno, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run.
