Softball Recap: Modesto's Losing Streak Snapped at Five Games

Modesto came into Monday's contest having lost five straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They were the clear victors by a 16-1 margin over the Downey Knights on Monday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Panthers considering their one-run performance the matchup before.

Noelle Ramos was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Those seven strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two runs and two RBI.

In other batting news, Modesto got a massive performance out of Amaya Ramirez, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. Those three RBI gave Ramirez a new career-high. Kayla Contreras was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs and one RBI.

Modesto always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .684. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Modesto's victory bumped their record up to 8-18. As for Downey, they are on a ten-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-14.

Modesto and Downey could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps California Rankings. The Panthers (ranked 860th) will meet Enochs (ranked 292nd) at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Downey will take on Gregori at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday with a big rank disadvantage (793 vs. 349).
