Polk County gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Friday. They skirted past the Chase Trojans 34-32. This was payback for the Wolverines, who suffered a 27-26 loss the last time these two teams met.

Polk County's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Loreynzo Sanchez led the charge by rushing for 234 yards and one TD while picking up 9.4 yards per carry, and also picking up 76 receiving yards. Sanchez's longest rush was for an incredible 89 yards. Another player making a difference was Styler Blackwell, who picked up 125 receiving yards and three scores.

Polk County's run defense was locked in: Chase could only muster three yards per carry. The team can thank Zalen McCraw for the heroic effort on defense: he. Polk County didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 7.6.

Despite the loss, Chase still got an impressive performance from Darin Tipton, who threw for 389 yards and three touchdowns. Kaiden Boyce helped Tipton out on the ground, picking up 36 receiving yards and a pair of TDs, while also punching in one rushing score.

Polk County didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 49-14 defeat against Newton-Conover on the 29th. As for Chase, they will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Blacksburg at 7:30 p.m. on the 5th.
