Preview: Bruce Trojans vs. Eupora Eagles
Bruce is 9-1 against Eupora since February of 2019, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The Bruce Trojans will head out on the road to face off against the Eupora Eagles at 7:00 p.m. Given that the pair suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.
Last Tuesday, Bruce was beaten by South Pontotoc 71-39. Bruce was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 34-12.
Despite the loss, Bruce had strong showings from Jay Cole Williams, who scored nine points along with four steals, and Kobe Hooper, who scored 15 points. Those four steals set a new season-high mark for him.
Bruce struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only two offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Eupora took a serious blow against Hamilton on Thursday, falling 75-39. While losing is never fun, Eupora can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 227th, while Hamilton is ranked 74th).
Bruce has been struggling recently, as they've lost five of their last six matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-7 record this season. As for Eupora, they now have a losing record at 5-6.
Bruce took their victory against Eupora in their previous meeting back in November by a conclusive 68-48. The rematch might be a little tougher for Bruce since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
