Basketball Recap: South Mecklenburg Takes a Loss

On Saturday, the South Mecklenburg Sabres didn't have quite enough to beat the Laney Buccaneers and fell 70-68. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Friday (65), the Sabres still had to take the loss.

When it comes to explaining why South Mecklenburg lost, don't look at Jim Gatehouse. Despite the final result, he went 8 of 16 en route to 24 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Myles Howard, who posted nine points along with five rebounds and four steals.

Even though they lost, South Mecklenburg was working as a unit and finished the game with 14 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Colin Lamb was his usual excellent self, going 14 of 26 on his way to 29 points and seven boards for Laney. Lamb is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last four games he's played. Whit Lamb was another key player, going 5 of 9 on his way to 10 points and five assists.

South Mecklenburg now has a losing record at 6-7. As for Laney, the victory was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 7-2.

South Mecklenburg wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 72-67 win against Palisades on the 3rd. As for Laney, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 63-62 loss against Cary on the 30th.
