Preview: Longview Lobos vs. Marshall Mavericks
Longview is 8-2 against Marshall since January of 2016, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Longview Lobos will be playing in front of their home fans against the Marshall Mavericks at 7:30 p.m. Longview will be looking to keep their eight-game home win streak alive.
Longview stacked a 15th blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard on Tuesday. They claimed a resounding 78-49 win over Pine Tree on the road. Given Longview's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 83rd, while Pine Tree is ranked 698th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Robert Blandburg continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 20 points along with three steals and two blocks. Another player making a difference was Drew Ward, who scored 14 points along with five assists.
Even though Marshall has not done well against Texas recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. Marshall came out on top against Texas by a score of 74-67. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Longview has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 19 of their last 20 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 24-3 record this season. As for Marshall, their victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 8-15.
Everything came up roses for Longview against Marshall when the teams last played on January 2nd as the team secured a 92-48 victory. Does Longview have another victory up their sleeve, or will Marshall turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
