Softball Recap: Columbia City Extends Winning Streak to Three

Columbia City barely beat Fort Wayne Northrop the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Eagles blew past the Bruins 9-3 on Friday. The result was nothing new for the Eagles, who have now won three matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

Emma Hiss and Kendyl Sattison made a splash while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Hiss pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Sattison pitched five innings while giving up three earned runs off four hits. Hiss has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. At bat, Hiss went 3-for-4 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs, while Sattison went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run. The dominant performance also gave Hiss a new career-high in doubles (two).

They weren't the only ones making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Mylie Ward, who went 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Hanna Maggard was another, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one triple.

The victory (which was Columbia City's third in a row) raised their record to 4-1. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.7 runs over those games. As for Fort Wayne Northrop, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-4.

Columbia City didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 3-1 defeat against Munster on the 18th. As for Fort Wayne Northrop, they will square off against Carroll at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
