First Coast Christian hasn't had much luck against St. Johns Country Day recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The First Coast Christian Knights just played last yesterday, but they'll still welcome the St. Johns Country Day Spartans at 6:30 p.m. First Coast Christian is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 58.5 points per game this season.
On Thursday, First Coast Christian came up short against Christ's Church Academy and fell 55-44.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was David Ellis Jr., who went 5 for 10 on his way to 13 points. Aidyn Farrell was another key player, putting up eight points and four steals.
Even though they lost, First Coast Christian smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in six consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, St. Johns Country Day beat Harvest Community 59-49 on Wednesday.
The match pitted two dominant guards against one another in Camden Cooper and Adam Lawson. Cooper had a solid game and posted 15 points. Meanwhile, Lawson did his best for the losing side, earning 16 points along with eight rebounds and five assists.
St. Johns Country Day has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 8-10 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.8 points per game. As for First Coast Christian, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-8.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: First Coast Christian has been crashing the boards this season, having averaged 27.6 rebounds per game. However, it's not like St. Johns Country Day struggles in that department as they've been averaging 36.8 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
First Coast Christian might still be hurting after the 70-50 loss they got from St. Johns Country Day when the teams last played back in January of 2024. Can First Coast Christian avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
