Basketball Recap: Chapel Hill Snaps Four-Game Streak of Wins on the Road

If Chapel Hill was riding high fresh off their 64-44 takedown of Northern Guilford last Saturday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Chapel Hill Tigers fell to the Wakefield Wolverines 61-57. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Tigers came into the match with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 41st, while the Wolverines are ranked 137th).

Despite the defeat, Chapel Hill saw an underclassman step up: freshman Deuce Geer went 6 for 12 on his way to 19 points. Niko Davis was another key player, putting up ten points and seven rebounds.

Even though they lost, Chapel Hill smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in four consecutive games.

Wakefield's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Avery Hicks led the charge by almost dropping a double-double on 14 points and nine boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Colin Taylor, who posted nine points.

Chapel Hill's loss ended a four-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 7-2. As for Wakefield, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 5-3 record this season.

Chapel Hill didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 49-48 defeat against Ravenscroft on the 21st. As for Wakefield, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 58-47 win against Apex on the 20th.
