Basketball Recap: Cheyenne Wells Comes Up Short

After flying high against Swink last Saturday, Cheyenne Wells came back down to earth. The Cheyenne Wells Tigers fell to the McClave Cardinals 44-40. The Tigers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Cardinals apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in March of 2024.

When it comes to explaining why Cheyenne Wells lost on Friday, don't look at Corey Hill. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double with 22 points and 17 rebounds. Hill has been hot for a while, having posted eight or more boards the last 47 times he's played. Zach Dickey was another key player, putting up four points.

Even though they lost, Cheyenne Wells smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as McClave only five offensive rebounds.

Tuff Kelley was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double with 21 points and 12 rebounds for McClave. Kelley continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Myles Northrup, who posted ten points.

Cheyenne Wells' defeat was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 4-1 and their overall record down to 16-4. As for McClave, they pushed their record up to 18-3 with the victory, which was their seventh straight at home.

Cheyenne Wells has already played their next game, a 57-43 win against Holly on the 22nd. As for McClave, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 59-31 victory against Burlington on the 22nd.
