Baseball Recap: Prout Crusaders vs. Westerly Bulldogs        
        
		
            
 On Wednesday, Prout faced Westerly in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The Prout Crusaders suffered a  tough 12-1 loss at the hands of the Westerly Bulldogs. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest  runs Prout has scored all season.
  Derek Gesmondi made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and  went 1-for-3 with a  home run.
 On Westerly's side,  Tom Fiore made a splash no matter where he played. He  pitched five innings while giving up just one earned run off   four  hits. Fiore was also big at the plate,  scoring two  runs and  stealing a base while  getting on base  in all four of his plate appearances.
 In other batting news,  Grayson Simmons and  Josh Ferando did most of the damage at the plate:  Simmons  scored two  runs while  getting on base  in four of his five plate appearances, while  Ferando  scored three  runs while going 2-for-2.  Nick Tria was another key contributor,  going 2-for-4 with three  RBI.
 Prout's defeat dropped their record down to 3-3. As for Westerly, their win was  their third straight on the road, which  pushed their record up to 5-1.
 Prout will  take on Ponaganset at 4:30  p.m.  on Friday. Prout's pitching crew has only allowed 3.8  runs per game  this season, so Ponaganset's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Westerly, they will look to defend their home field  on Friday against Barrington at 1:00  p.m. Westerly and Barrington are at an even 3-3 over their past six head-to-heads.
