Softball Game Preview: Canby Cougars vs. Hood River Valley Eagles

For the second straight game, Canby will face off against Hood River Valley. The Cougars will face off against the Eagles at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Canby will be looking to extend their current eight-game winning streak.

Canby barely beat Hood River Valley the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Cougars' pitcher stepped up to hand the Eagles a 9-0 shutout on Wednesday. The result was nothing new for the Cougars, who have now won 12 games by six runs or more so far this season.

Not much got past Alli Hayzlett, who gave up just two hits and racked up seven Ks to keep Hood River Valley off the board. Hayzlett has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 15 consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Taylor Saucedo, who went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Abigail Troutman, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.

Canby's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-6. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.5 runs over those games. As for Hood River Valley, with the loss, they broke their ten-game winning streak and moved their record to 14-3.
