Baseball Recap: Hannibal Takes a Loss

Hickman hit Hannibal with a five-run third inning on Thursday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Pirates took an 8-4 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Kewpies. The loss continues a trend for the Pirates in their meetings with the Kewpies: they've now lost four in a row.

Patrick Arthaud made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one home run. That home run marked the first that he has launched this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Brody Wilson, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases and one run.

Hannibal's defeat dropped their record down to 11-14. As for Hickman, the victory snapped their losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 11-13 record.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Hannibal will welcome Palmyra at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The Pirates' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Panthers have averaged an impressive 6.2 runs per game this season. As for Hickman, they will square off against Kickapoo at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday.
