Baseball Recap: Starkville Comes Up Short in High-Profile Contest with Madison Central

Starkville faced Madison Central in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. Starkville fell just short of Madison Central by a score of 5-3. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Jaguars this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 5-2 last Tuesday.

Starkville saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Torian Knox, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.

Starkville's defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 11-7. As for Madison Central, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 7-2.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Starkville is set to square off against their familiar foe Germantown at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Madison Central will face off against rival Tupelo at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Madison Central 3, Tupelo 4.1) so any runs scored will be well earned.
