MaxPreps Midwest Top 25 high school boys basketball rankings

Lots of turnover in this week's rankings, with six new teams entering the fray.

After some key losses by top squads, six new teams enter the Top 25 this week, including Hopkins (Minnetonka, Minn.) at No. 15.

MaxPreps Midwest Top 25 Boys Basketball Rankings

1. (Last week, 1) Archbishop Moeller (Cincinnati), 23-1
The Crusaders raised their winning streak to 17 games and won the Division I district title with a 55-43 victory over Fairborn. They shot 56 percent from the field and even though leading scorer Grant Benzinger was held without a point, 6-9 junior Nate Fowler picked up the slack with 22 points.
Next: Wednesday vs. Middletown in the Division I regional semifinals at Xavier University.

2. (2) Muskegon (Mich.), 23-0
The Big Reds won the Class A district crown with a 73-48 rout of Union (Grand Rapids) as Deshaun Thrower scored 20 points. Deyonta Davis, a 6-9 junior, had 16 points, 12 rebounds and 16 blocks. Thrower scored 21 points during an earlier 53-35 victory over Grand Haven.
Next: Monday vs. Northview (Grand Rapids) in the Class A regional semifinals at Zeeland East.

3. (3) Indianapolis Arsenal Technical (Indianapolis), 23-2

The Titans defeated Roncalli (Indianapolis) 56-44 to win their first sectional title in 36 years. Jeremie Tyler scored 20 points and Trey Lyles pulled down 15 rebounds. Tyler had 29 points during an earlier 82-52 victory over Lawrence North (Indianapolis), while Lyles had 28 points, 14 rebounds and five assists in a 77-47 win against Lawrence Central (Indianapolis).
Next: Saturday vs. Richmond in the Class 4A regional semifinals at Southport.



4. (4) Stevenson (Lincolnshire, Ill.), 28-1
Junior guards Jalen Brunson and Connor Cashaw both scored 25 points as the Patriots defeated Warren (Gurnee) 79-59 to win the Class 4A regional crown. During a 65-38 semifinal victory over McHenry, Brunson had 18 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists.
Next: Tuesday vs. St. Viator (Arlington Heights) in the Class 4A sectional at Lake Zurich.

5. (8) St. Edward (Lakewood, Ohio), 22-2
The Eagles defeated Brunswick 74-62 to win the Division I district title behind Kipper Nichols, who had 24 points, seven rebounds, six assists and three steals.
Next: Thursday vs. St. Ignatius (Cleveland) in the Division I regional semifinals at the University of Akron.

6. (9) Marian Catholic (Chicago Heights, Ill.), 26-2
Tyler Ulis scored 17 points as the Spartans won the Class 4A regional with a 67-53 victory over Providence (New Lenox). Ulis had 17 points, 10 assists and six steals during a 77-52 semifinal win against Plainfield Central.
Next: Tuesday vs. Bloom Township (Chicago Heights) in the Class 4A sectional.

7. (7) La Lumiere (LaPorte, Ind.), 23-2
Idle last week.

8. (11) Whitney Young (Chicago), 24-5
The Dolphins won the Class 4A regional with a 73-60 victory over De La Salle (Chicago) as Jahlil Okafor had 24 points and seven blocks.
Next: Wednesday vs. four-time defending state champion Simeon (Chicago) in the Class 4A sectional semifinals at Marist.

The Generals nipped Case (Racine) 87-78 in double overtime to win the Division I sectional and end Case's 17-game winning streak. Chris Howell dominated with 37 points (17 of 19 free throws) and 18 rebounds. In the semifinals, they edged unbeaten and then No. 6-ranked Brookfield Central 77-74 in one overtime before a standing-room crowd. Curtis Weathers scored 22 points and Howell had 21, including seven of his team's eight overtime points.
Next: Friday vs. two-time defending state champion and No. 18-ranked Germantown in the Division I state semifinals at the Kohl Center in Madison.



10. (23) Hamilton Southeastern (Fishers, Ind.), 22-3
The Royals stunned two-time defending Class 4A state champion and No. 10-ranked Carmel 50-42 before a crowd of 4,000 to win the Class 4A sectional and avenge an earlier one-point loss. Senior guard Eric Davidson pumped in 27 points, including 12 straight free throws in the decisive fourth quarter. Davidson scored 22 points during a 61-51 semifinal win against host Noblesville.
Next: Saturday vs. Fort Wayne North (24-1) in the Class 4A regional semifinals at Marion.

11. (12) Lanphier (Springfield, Ill.), 27-1
Xavier Bishop scored 34 points as the Lions defeated Sacred Heart Griffin (Springfield) 77-67 to win the Class 3A regional. Larry Austin Jr. had 32 points and five steals and Bishop had 21 points during a 108-72 semifinal rout of Jacksonville.
Next: Tuesday vs. Champaign Central in the Class 3A sectional at Mattoon.

12. (14) Greensburg, Ind.), 24-1
The Pirates defeated archrival Batesville 61-55 for the third time this season to capture the Class 3A sectional crown and present coach Stacy Meyer with his 200th career victory. Career scoring leader Sean Sellers had 21 points, while Bryant McIntosh had 18 points to go with 10 assists. Sellers averaged 24 points and 11 rebounds during two earlier sectional victories.
Next: Saturday vs. Silver Creek (Sellersburg) in the Class 3A regional semifinals at Washington.

13. (18) Hickman (Columbia, Mo.), 24-2
The Kewpies defeated Jefferson City for the fourth time this season, 65-51, to win the Class 5 district championship as Jimmy Whitt scored 19 points and Chris Clark 18. Clark scored 19 points during a 60-59 semifinal overtime victory against Camdenton.
Next: Wednesday vs. Waynesville in the Class 5 sectional at Camdenton.

14. (19) Dubuque (Iowa), 22-1
Kyle Haber scored 22 points as the Rams defeated Linn-Mar (Marion) 52-47 to win the Class 4A substate championship.
Next: Wednesday vs. Valley (West Des Moines) in the Class 4A state quarterfinals at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines.

15. (NR) Hopkins (Minnetonka, Minn.), 28-1
The Royals defeated Eden Prairie 77-64 to win the Class 4A sectional. Amir Coffey scored 20 points and Jacob Wright had 19 in their team's 23rd consecutive victory.
Next: Wednesday vs. Tartan (St. Paul) in the Class 4A state quarterfinals at the Target Center in Minneapolis.



16. (NR) Penn (Mishawaka, Ind.), 21-1
The Kingsmen nipped Washington (South Bend) 71-67 in overtime during the Class 4A sectional semifinals as 5-8 junior guard Nate Miller scored six of his team's nine overtime points and made two critical steals. Jordan Geist was high scorer with 20 points. Geist also had 24 points during a 68-53 quarterfinal win against Adams (South Bend.).
Next: Monday vs. Riley (South Bend) for the Class 4A sectional crown at Washington.

17. (NR) Mt. Clemens (Mich.), 22-1
Mt. Clemens defeated Oakland Christian (Auburn Hills) 66-52 to win the Class C district title. Charles Penn II had 15 points and Dorian Armstrong grabbed 13 rebounds.
Next: Monday vs. Marlette in the Class C regional semifinals at Bishop Foley.

18. (NR) Germantown (Wis.), 24-2
The three-time defending Division I state champions are knocking on the door of a four-peat after winning the sectional with a 66-51 victory over Kimberly. LaMonte Bearden Jr. was high scorer with 17 points.
Next: Friday vs. No. 9 Milwaukee King in the Division I state semifinals at the Kohl Center in Madison.

19. (5) Apple Valley (Minn.), 27-2
The heavily-favored and then No. 5-ranked Eagles were stunned by Cretin-Derham Hall (St. Paul) 89-77 in double overtime during the Class 4A sectional finals. Their 22-game winning streak ended abruptly despite 35 points, eight assists and six steals by All-American point guard Tyus Jones.

20. (21) Blue Valley Northwest (Overland Park, Kan.), 20-2
David Salach scored 20 points as the Huskies won the Class 6A substate with a 63-49 victory over Shawnee Mission East. They defeated Shawnee Mission North 78-55 in the semifinals behind the scoring of Vince Fritz (22) and Kyle Harrison (20).
Next: Thursday vs. Wichita North in the Class 6A state quarterfinals at Wichita State University.

21. (22) Lincoln (Ill.), 30-2
The Railsplitters raised their winning streak to 16 games and won the Class 3A regional with a 48-46 overtime victory against MacArthur (Decatur). Gavin Block set the pace with 19 points.
Next: Wednesday vs. Glenwood (Chatham) in the Class 3A sectional at Mattoon.



22. (NR) Consortium College Prep (Detroit), 20-2
The Cougars routed Melvindale Academy For Business and Tech 72-40 to win the Class C district title as 6-6 sophomore Joshua Jackson had 24 points, 19 rebounds and 11 assists.
Next: Monday vs. Allen Academy (Detroit) in the Class C regional semifinals at Clinton.

23. (NR) Trotwood-Madison (Trotwood, Ohio), 23-2
The Rams edged LaSalle (Cincinnati) 51-50 to capture the Division I district championship. Dezhontae Bennett was high scorer with 23 points, but senior guard Kendrick Mallory scored four critical points during the final 17 seconds.
Next: Wednesday vs. Wayne (Huber Heights) in the Division I regional semifinals at Xavier University.

24. (24) Benson (Omaha, Neb.), 23-3
Khyri Thomas scored 12 points to help Benson win the Class A district title with a 42-31 victory over North Platte.
Next: Thursday vs. Northeast (Lincoln) in the Class A state quarterfinals at the Pinnacle Bank Arena in Lincoln.

25. (25) Century (Bismarck, N.D.), 21-1
Six-foot-six senior Tyler Rudolph had 22 points and 13 rebounds as the Patriots defeated Bismarck 53-31 to win the Class A regional. Rudolph also produced 15 points and 10 rebounds during a 57-34 semifinal win against Minot.
Next: Thursday vs. Shanley (Fargo) in the Class A state quarterfinals at the Minot State Dome.

No. 6 Central (Brookfield, Wis.) lost to then No. 16 King (Milwaukee) 77-74 in overtime.
No. 10 Carmel (Ind.) lost to then No. 23 Hamilton Southeastern (Fishers, Ind.) 50-42.
No. 13 Chaminade (St. Louis) lost to Ladue (St. Louis) 61-58.
No. 15 Zanesville (Ohio) lost to Pickerington Central 58-42.
No. 17 Pershing (Detroit) lost to Cass Tech (Detroit) 78-73.
No. 20 Zion-Benton (Zion, Ill.) lost to St. Viator (Arlington Heights) 81-64.

The Midwestern region includes all teams from Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota and Wisconsin.
