Preview: Weeping Water Indians vs. Palmyra Panthers
Weeping Water is 1-9 against Palmyra since December of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Weeping Water Indians will head out on the road to face off against the Palmyra Panthers at 7:30 p.m. Weeping Water is hoping to put an end to a six-game streak of away losses dating back to last season.
On Tuesday, things could have been worse for Weeping Water, but they could have been a whole lot better as they took a 46-30 loss to Louisville. Weeping Water has not had much luck with Louisville recently, as the team's come up short the last eight times they've met.
Despite their defeat, Weeping Water saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Gus Mcgill, who scored 12 points, was perhaps the best of all. Mcgill is absolutely dominating the steal category: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Riggs Wilson, who scored 12 points.
Meanwhile, this season hasn't been kind to Palmyra, who are still winless after their fifth matchup. The game between Palmyra and Johnson County Central wasn't particularly close, with Palmyra falling 55-37. While losing is never fun, Palmyra can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 240th, while Johnson County Central is ranked 29th).
Palmyra's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Draven Priel, who scored seven points along with six rebounds, and Noah Lang who scored ten points. Those ten points set a new season-high mark for Lang.
Weeping Water's loss dropped their record down to 2-1. As for Palmyra, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-5.
Weeping Water was dealt a bruising 82-39 loss at the hands of Palmyra in their previous meeting back in February. The matchup was all but decided by halftime, at which point Weeping Water was down 42-21.
