Baseball Recap: Piscataway Vo-Tech Triumphs

On Monday Piscataway Vo-Tech's undefeated season almost came to an end. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 6-5 W against the Somerset Tech Jaguars. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 1-0 on Friday.

Kyle Malchiodi was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 12 batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off six hits. That's the most strikeouts he has posted over his last three matchups. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.

In other pitching news, Brody Guthrie looked comfortable as he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.

Malchiodi wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Colton Lyerly, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

Piscataway Vo-Tech's victory bumped their record up to 14-0. As for Somerset Tech, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-4.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Piscataway Vo-Tech will face off against Highland Park at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Raiders' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Owls have averaged an impressive 6.9 runs per game this season. As for Somerset Tech, they will take on Warren County Tech at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
