Football Recap: Shepherd Takes a Loss

If Shepherd was feeling good fresh off their 32-7 takedown of Jasper last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Pirates lost 37-16 to the Hamshire-Fannett Longhorns on Friday. The defeat continues a trend for the Pirates in their meetings with the Longhorns: they've now lost four in a row.

When it comes to explaining why Shepherd lost, don't look at Landen Dellinger. Despite the final result, he rushed for 100 yards and a pair of touchdowns, and also threw for 118 yards on only nine passes. Dellinger's rushing production has been exceptional recently as that marked his third straight game with at least 100 rushing yards.

Shepherd's loss dropped their record down to 7-2. As for Hamshire-Fannett, their win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-2.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Shepherd will take on rival Silsbee at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. That matchup will pit two of the most dominant signal callers against one another: Dellinger and Jacaleb Johnson. Meanwhile, Hamshire-Fannett is set to challenge their familiar foe West Orange-Stark at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
