Preview: Colorado Wolves vs. Stamford Bulldogs
Colorado is 0-3 against Stamford since October of 2020 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Colorado Wolves will head out on the road to face off against the Stamford Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. Colorado is hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses.
Even though Olney scored an imposing 43 points on Friday, Colorado still came out on top. Colorado came out on top in a nail-biter against Olney and snuck past 46-43. The victory was just what Colorado needed coming off of a 48-7 defeat in their prior game.
Colorado got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Mayson Monroe out in front who rushed for 153 yards and four touchdowns on only 14 carries, and also threw for 36 yards and a touchdown. Monroe's longest rush was for an incredible 70 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Ezik Hernandez, who rushed for 186 yards and a touchdown while picking up 7.8 yards per carry.
Meanwhile, Stamford unfortunately witnessed the end of their seven-game winning streak on Friday. They took a 34-30 hit to the loss column at the hands of Hawley. Stamford gained 58 more yards on the day, but it was Hawley that made the best of use of them.
The losing side was boosted by Kaston Vega, who rushed for 108 yards and a touchdown. Vega is on a roll when it comes to solo tackles, as he's now made six or more in the last five games he's played. Christian Duran also helped with two touchdowns in total.
Colorado's victory lifted them to 2-7 while Stamford's defeat dropped them down to 7-1.
Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground as these two are both standouts in the run game. Colorado has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 152.7 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Stamford struggles in that department as they've been even better at 204 per game. It's looking like Friday's game might have some serious battles in the trenches.
Colorado took a serious blow against Stamford when the teams last played back in November of 2022, falling 54-0. Thankfully for Colorado, Hayden Henager (who rushed for 92 yards and a touchdown on only eight carries, and also caught a touchdown) won't be suiting up this time.
