Basketball Preview: Ozanam vs. Frontier School of Excellence
Ozanam has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will square off against Frontier School of Excellence at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Both teams come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
A well-balanced attack led Ozanam over the Aztecs in every quarter on their way to victory on Thursday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Ozanam blew the Aztecs out of the water with a 59-20 final score. The game was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 32-12.
Talan Olmstead continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double on 18 points and 22 rebounds. He also posted eight assists for the first time this season. Skylar Horn was another key contributor, scoring 17 points along with three steals.
Meanwhile, it may have taken overtime to finish the job, but Frontier School of Excellence ultimately got the result they hoped for on Thursday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Training Center Christian 69-66. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Frontier School of Excellence's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Mohamed Yussuf, who scored 17 points, and Henry Uti, who scored 18 points. Uti is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 18 or more in the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jakeem Davis, who scored 12 points.
Ozanam's record is now 7-10. Frontier School of Excellence's record is now 8-4.
Ozanam came out on top in a nail-biter against the when the teams last played back in December of 2023, sneaking past 44-41. The rematch might be a little tougher for Ozanam since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
