Basketball Recap: Genoa-Hugo/Karval Comes Up Short

Genoa-Hugo/Karval and Eads squared off in some playoff action on Saturday, but Genoa-Hugo/Karval had to settle for second. They took a blow against the Eads Eagles, falling 56-26. The Pirates have struggled against the Eagles recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive lost meetings.

Genoa-Hugo/Karval lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Amy James, who posted six points and three steals. Another player making a difference was Rylee Corn, who had six points.

Eads found their leader in sophomore Anna Wollert, who dropped a double-double with 18 points and 13 boards. Wollert is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in each of the last five games she's played. Tailee Weeks-Johnson was another key player, putting up 15 points.

Genoa-Hugo/Karval's defeat dropped their record down to 13-12. As for Eads, the victory was the 16th in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 21-3.

Genoa-Hugo/Karval does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Eads, it'll be a Battle of the Birds when Eads Eagles challenge Briggsdale Falcons at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. One thing working in their favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last four contests.
