Softball Recap: Dekalb County Drops Season-High Score on Cumberland County

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask DeKalb County). They were the clear victors by a 19-0 margin over the Cumberland County Jets on Monday. The result was nothing new for the Tigers, who have now won nine games by six runs or more so far this season.

Kora Kilgore made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than nine strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

In other batting news, DeKalb County got a massive performance out of Rylee Wilbur, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. Those four RBI gave Wilbur a new career-high. Bryna Pelham was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, three RBI, and two doubles.

DeKalb County hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Cumberland County struck out nine times.

DeKalb County has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-6 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.1 runs over those games. As for Cumberland County, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-17.

DeKalb County wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, a 2-0 win against Watertown on the 29th. Cumberland County has also already played their next game (against Jackson County), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
