Basketball Recap: Montrose Drops Highest Score of Season Against Discovery Canyon

Montrose had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They walked away with a 61-50 victory over the Discovery Canyon Thunder on Saturday. The Red Hawks' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

It was another big night for Mayce Oberg, who dropped a double-double with 32 points and 11 boards. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 15.7 points per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Lilly Nelson, who posted six points and seven rebounds.

Despite the loss, Discovery Canyon still got an impressive performance from Natalie Neuhaus, who went 8-for-19 en route to 23 points along with seven boards and three blocks. Discovery Canyon is 7-3 when Neuhaus posts 15 or more points, but 5-9 otherwise. Taylor McCann was another key player, putting up five points in addition to six rebounds and four steals.

Montrose pushed their record up to 20-4 with the win, which was their third straight at home. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to offensive boards: they averaged an imposing 12.33 offensive rebounds in those games compared to only 7.86 in the others. As for Discovery Canyon, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last seven matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 12-12 record this season.

Montrose didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 32-23 loss against Durango on the 5th. Discovery Canyon does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
