Volleyball Preview: Evanston Devils vs. Star Valley Braves
Evanston hasn't had much luck against Star Valley recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. After both having extra time off, both will shake off the cobwebs and square off against one another at 6:00 p.m. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.
Evanston is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Wyoming's top teams: Riverton, who was ranked 12th in their home state at the time (Evanston was ranked eighth). Evanston narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Riverton 3-2.
Evanston was staring down a 2-1 deficit headed into the fourth set, but they rallied to take the next two for the win. The match finished with set scores of 25-27, 25-9, 18-25, 25-20, 15-9.
Cassidy Coley went supernova for Evanston, getting 18 digs. The team also got some help courtesy of Austin Robertson, who had 11 digs.
Meanwhile, Star Valley had already won two in a row and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 win over the Broncs.
If you add up the scores from across all five sets (100-99) Star Valley actually scored fewer points, but in the end it didn't matter. The final score came out to 10-25, 25-20, 25-21, 24-26, 15-8.
Maya Allred was the offensive standout of the matchup as she had 13 digs.
Evanston has been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 12 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 23-11 record this season. As for Star Valley, they pushed their record up to 13-19 with the victory, which was their third straight at home.
