            Softball Preview: Highlands Owls vs. Edison Golden Bears        
        
		
        
        
            For the first time this season, Highlands will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup  on Friday. They will be playing in front of their home fans against the Edison Golden Bears  at 7:15  p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication,  the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Edison will be up against a hot Highlands  team: the  squad just extended their winning streak to five. Everything went Highlands' way against Lytle last Tuesday as Highlands made off with  a  12-5 win.
Meanwhile,  winning is always nice, but doing so behind a  season-high score is even better (just ask Edison). They had just enough and edged out Brackenridge  12-10. The Golden Bears haven't had any issues with the Eagles recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive  victory against them.
 Chipper Mayorga made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound,   striking out six batters over  four innings while giving up just two earned runs off   three  hits (and not a single walk). That's the most  strikeouts  she has posted since back in April of 2024. She was also big at the plate,  scoring two  runs and  stealing  Two bases. while going 2-for-4.
 In other batting news,  Jisele Hernandez was  excellent,  scoring two  runs and  stealing  Two bases. while  getting on base  in two of her four plate appearances.
 Highlands' win was  their third straight at home, which  pushed their record up to 5-3. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.7 runs on average over those games. As for Edison, their  victory (their first of the  season) made their record 1-5-1.
