Baseball Game Preview: Cypress Bay Lightning vs. ABF Academy Cowboys

The Cypress Bay Lightning will face off against the ABF Academy Cowboys at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Cypress Bay will be strutting in after a victory while ABF Academy will be coming in after a loss.

On Tuesday, Cypress Bay earned a 5-2 win over Western.

Gabe Gener spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on five hits and racked up ten Ks. Cypress Bay is 3-1 when Gener allowsone or fewer earned runs, but 3-5 otherwise.

At the plate, John Escobar was incredible, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. He has become a key player for Cypress Bay: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 2-6 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Santiago Sanchez, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3.

Meanwhile, ABF Academy came up short against Dade Christian on Monday, falling 15-9.

Jose Zerpa made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored three runs while going 2-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Angel Villegas, who went 2-for-5 with two runs and one triple.

The victory got Cypress Bay back to even at 6-6. As for ABF Academy, they now have a losing record of 4-5.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Cypress Bay has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.5 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like ABF Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.1 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
