Softball Recap: Hondo's Victory on Monday Extends Winning Streak to Five

Hondo came tearing into Monday's contest with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.5 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured an 8-7 W against the Natalia Mustangs. That's two games straight that the Owls have won by just one run.

Rebecca Rubio spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and six unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up six Ks. Those hits were her first of the season.

At the plate, Hondo let Kristyn Ybarra and Miya Lathe run wild. Ybarra scored two runs and stole Three bases., while Lathe scored a run while going 2-for-4. Ybarra is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: she's snagged at least one every time she's taken the field this season. Raelyn Hernandez also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.

Hondo's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 7-6. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Natalia, with the defeat, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 13-4-1.

Looking ahead, Hondo is taking a road trip to challenge Cotulla at 7:00 p.m. on March 18th. As for Natalia, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Lytle at 7:00 p.m. on March 18th.
