MaxPreps final Texas Top 25 high school basketball rankings

Texas has a great representation in the most recent edition of the rankings.

Throughout the 2015-16 boys basketball season, DeSoto found itself in the shadow of undefeated No. 1 Atascocita in the MaxPreps Texas Top 25.

Both teams survived six rounds of playoff games to find themselves facing off in the UIL Class 6A championship game Saturday night at San Antonio's Alamodome, where DeSoto ended Atascocita's dream season. Separated by a run of 18 consecutive points over the final 6:22 of the second quarter, DeSoto (36-2), a suburban Dallas school, defeated Atascocita (38-1), from the Houston area, 73-54.

Tristan Wallace, a 6-foot-4 forward headed to Oregon on a football scholarship, came off the bench to score 25 points on 11 of 17 shooting. Marques Bolden, a 6-11 senior still mulling college offers from many of the top programs, controlled the middle with nine rebounds, six blocked shots and 12 points.



Guard Carsen Edwards, a Purdue signee, led Atascocita with 20 points.

For DeSoto head coach Chris Dyer, it was his fourth UIL state title and his third at DeSoto.

Joining DeSoto as state champions were two other Dallas County teams, No. 3 Lancaster in Class 5A and No. 25 Lincoln (Dallas) in Class 4A. Earlier on Saturday, Lancaster won its second consecutive title, 67-64, over No. 5 Fort Bend Elkins (Missouri City). Lancaster (35-2) finished with a 32-game winning streak.

Lincoln produced its first state title since the days of Chris Bosh, prevailing by three points over Silsbee, 75-72.

Tristen Wallace, the quarterback on the football team, and post Marques Bolden led the Eagles to a 73-54 victory over Atascocita (Humble) in the Class 6A state title game.



2. (1) Atascocita (Humble), 38-1
The Eagles' bid for a perfect season ended in a 73-54 loss to DeSoto in the Class 6A state championship game. Guard Carsen Edwards finished his brilliant high school career with 20 points.

3. (3) Lancaster, 35-2
Darious Anderson and Tahjon Starks scored 20 points each to help the Tigers secure their second-consecutive Class 5A state title with a 67-64 victory over Fort Bend Elkins (Missouri City).

4. (9) Steele (Cibolo), 32-4
Kijana Love scored 20 points in a 58-53 overtime loss to DeSoto in a Class 6A state semifinal.

5. (5) Fort Bend Elkins (Missouri City), 36-3
The Knights lost to Lancaster 67-64 in the Class 5A state title game despite 22 points from Chad Bowie.

6. (10) South Grand Prairie, 26-9
The Warriors were eliminated by fellow District 8-6A foe DeSoto in the Class 6A Region I title game, 53-47.

7. (6) Shoemaker (Killeen), 34-3
The Wolves' playoff demise was administered by Atascocita, 64-56.

8. (7) Ozen (Beaumont), 31-4
The Panthers hung tough in a 67-65 loss to Fort Bend Elkins (Missouri City) in the Region III title game.



9. (4) Houston Math Science & Tech, 34-5
Sophomore guard Kendric Davis scored 20 points in a season-ending 78-67 loss to Atascocita (Humble) in a Class 6A state semifinal.

10. (8) Cypress Lakes (Katy), 25-8
In the Region III title game with a berth to state at stake, Lakes fell 83-77 to Houston Math, Science & Tech.

11. (11) Westlake (Austin), 30-4
An impressive playoff run came to an end in the Region II title game at the hands of No. 1 Atascocita (Humble), 80-65.

12. (12) Prestonwood Christian (Plano), 33-7
A convincing TAPPS Class 5A state championship came Prestonwood Christian's way for the fifth-consecutive season.

13. (13) Aldine (Houston), 29-3
Aldine lost 87-78 to Cypress Lakes (Katy) in a Region III quarterfinal.

14. (14) Tascosa (Amarillo), 31-1
A third-round 67-43 loss to Martin (Arlington) spoiled the Rebels' perfect record and ended their season.



15. (15) Skyline (Dallas), 32-3
Westlake (Austin) ended the Raiders' season, 46-32 in a Region II semifinal.

16. (16) Brandeis (San Antonio), 31-2
Brandeis was surprised by Judson (Converse) in an area playoff.

17. (17) North Crowley (Fort Worth), 30-4
North Crowley was sent packing by Coronado (Lubbock) in a third-round playoff, 87-73.

18. (18) Klein Forest (Houston), 27-6
Klein Forest was ousted in the third round by Atascocita (Humble) 73-58.

19. (19) Dobie (Houston), 23-13
The Region III tournament qualifier lost 79-70 to Cypress Lakes (Katy).

20. (20) Martin (Arlington), 27-7
The Warriors' resume included a lopsided third-round playoff win over previously undefeated Tascosa (Amarillo). South Grand Prairie administered the knockout, 51-48 in the Region I semifinal.



21. (NR) Judson (Converse), 22-13
After splitting District 25-6A games with Steele (Cibolo), the Rockets took the Knights to two overtimes in a regional quarterfinal loss.

22. (22) Fort Bend Hightower (Missouri City), 32-5
Hightower was a third-round playoff victim of Dobie (Pasadena), 59-56.

23. (23) Fort Bend Travis (Richmond), 30-5
The Tigers' season ended in a 53-51 third-round loss to Alief Taylor (Houston).

24. (24) Yates (Houston), 29-4
Yates was eliminated from the playoffs in a 97-71 loss to Fort Bend Elkins (Missouri City).

25. (NR) Lincoln (Dallas), 24-14
Kortrijk Milles paced the Tigers with 28 points and 11 rebounds in a 75-72 victory over Silsbee for the Class 4A state title.

Dropped out: No. 21 Alief Taylor (Houston), No. 25 Dunbar (Fort Worth).
