Softball Recap: Ness City Eagles vs. Skyline Thunderbirds
Ness City extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 11 on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 0-10 in the process. They came up short against the Skyline Thunderbirds, falling 21-0. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Thunderbirds this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 15-5 on Tuesday.
As for Skyline, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-6 record this season. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matches by eight runs or more this season.
For Skyline's part, Kory Anschutz made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits (and not a single walk). Anschutz has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 12 consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, going 2-for-4 with five stolen bases, six RBI, and two runs. Those six RBI gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Sarah Reyes, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs, three RBI, and one stolen base. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Grace Hoffman, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs.
As of now, neither Ness City nor Skyline have any future games scheduled.
