Basketball Game Preview: Barry Western Wildcats vs. Pittsfield Saukees

The Barry Western Wildcats will head out to square off against the Pittsfield Saukees at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Neither of those teams managed to put together many points in their previous contests, so the offenses might be a little more motivated than usual.

Barry Western is headed into the matchup out to prove that what happened against Staunton on Saturday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. The Wildcats came up short against the Bulldogs, falling 47-21. The Wildcats were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 27-6.

Despite the loss, Barry Western saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Sophie Rennecker dropped a double-double with 11 points and ten rebounds. Mya Sheppard was another key player, putting up four points along with eight boards and five steals.

Meanwhile, Pittsfield was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat dating back to last season. They took a blow against Brown County, falling 64-22. The Saukees were down 56-20 at the end of the third quarter, and things only got worse from there.

Pittsfield's loss dropped their record down to 0-3. As for Barry Western, their defeat dropped their record down to an identical 0-3.

Barry Western couldn't quite get it done against Pittsfield in their previous matchup back in January of 2020 as they fell 32-22. Can the Wildcats avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
