Softball Recap: San Luis Comes Up Short

San Luis extended their losing streak to four on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 4-12 in the process. They came up short against the Gila Ridge Hawks, falling 17-0. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Hawks this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 16-0 on Monday.

As for Gila Ridge, their win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-4. Considering they have won 11 contests by more than nine runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

For Gila Ridge's part, Violet Silva made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out eight over four innings pitched. Silva has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kara Espino, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs, three RBI, and one triple. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Isabella Burke also deserves some recognition as she launched her first home run of the season.

While San Luis had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday.
