Softball Recap: Cazenovia Starts Season with Victory at Home

Cazenovia took care of business in their home opener on Thursday. They walked away with a 6-1 win over the Canastota Red Raiders. For the Lakers, this counts as revenge for the 26-7 victory the Red Raiders walked away with the last time they faced one another back in May of 2022.

Sophie Wilmot and Irie Gallerani were a major factor no matter where they played. Throwing, Wilmot tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Meanwhile, Gallerani didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out nine over four innings pitched. At bat, Wilmot scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3, while Gallerani went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases and one RBI.

In other batting news, Madison Weeks was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Cazenovia will take on Mexico at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Canastota, they will look to take advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they take on Oriskany at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
