Softball Preview: Beresford Watchdogs vs. Vermillion Tanagers

The Beresford Watchdogs will head out on the road to take on the Vermillion Tanagers at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Beresford is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of South Dakota's top teams: Lennox, who was ranked 24th in their home state at the time (Beresford was ranked 12th). Beresford skirted past Lennox 12-11. The high-scoring effort was just what Beresford needed considering they were shutout in their previous contest.

Rylie Laurvick looked comfortable as she tossed 3.1 innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Ivy Keiser, who went 5-for-5 with three doubles, three RBI, and a run. Another player making a difference was Tavyn Valder, who scored two runs and stole three bases while going 1-for-4.

Meanwhile, Vermillion waltzed into their matchup on Friday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They won by a run and slipped past the Mustangs 7-6.

Chandler Clevelandc made a splash no matter where she played. She pitched four innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits. Clevelandc was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 1-for-4.

In other batting news, Jenaya Clevelandc was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. Kristen Moser was another key contributor, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.

Beresford has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 7-3 record this season. As for Vermillion, they pushed their record up to 5-2 with that victory, which was their third straight at home.
